Occupational First Aid Level 3 Renewal
WorkSafeBC Program Standards allow certified (valid and current) OFA level 3 attendants to challenge the level 3 evaluation without attending the entire 10 day program. Our new 4-day OFA Level 3 Renewal course is designed for those who are confident in their Level 3 skills and knowledge, but who want a bit of a refresher before attempting to challenge the evaluation. This is especially important as there were changes to the OFA Level 3 course in August of 2018.
During the first 2 days of the renewal, participants will be introduced to the changes to OFA Level 3 standards, and review and practice basic skill such as CPR/AED, choking, airway management and oxygen therapy. Participants will also learn to use new equipment such as pulse oximeters, scoop stretchers, pelvic slings, head immobilizers and tourniquets. The new Deliberate Practice and Student Skill Sheets will serve as a basis for practicing the new skills in scenario-based, student-centered learning. As a bonus, each participant who successfully completes Day 1 of the renewal course will receive Canadian Red Cross CPR Level A certification which is valid for 3 years from date of issue.
The final two days of the renewal program serve as the Level 3 Challenge Evaluation, and are identical to the final two days of the new OFA Level 3 course.
Day 3 begins with formative scenario assessments. Each participant will complete 2 scenarios – one trauma, one medical. The course instructor will provide detailed feedback using a formative assessment sheet. Participants will also serve as helpers and patients during scenarios, giving them a broad exposure to several scenario-based assessments. While these formative assessments are very useful for participant learning, they do not form any part of the summative evaluation. Day 3 ends with the written evaluation – 100 multiple choice questions. The passing grade is 70%.
Day 4 is the summative scenario assessments. Again, each participant will complete one trauma and one medical scenario. The passing grade for the scenario assessments is 70%. Day 4 ends with a closing discussion and the delivery of participant results
This is a 4 day program, each day from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.. Home study, including pre-reading for each lesson & completion of homework assignments is essential. Participants must attend the complete final 2 days of training to qualify for certification.
Participants must have a valid and current OFA Level 3 certificate, and must have the physical ability to perform the required learning tasks. Successful completion requires complete attendance on the final 2 days.
ProSafe First Aid strongly encourages only those who are confident in their OFA Level 3 knowledge and skills to register for this course. While we do provide 2 days of refresher training, participants will not receive the full benefit of the training and practice the entire 10-day OFA Level 3 course provides. Participants who do not achieve 70% in either the written or practical evaluations must repeat that portion of the evaluation within 30 days. Participants who fail to achieve a passing grade on the second attempt must take the entire 10-day program.
Successful participants must achieve 70% on both a written (multiple choice) & practical exam. Certification is valid for 3 years. Participants successful on Day 1 will also receive a Canadian Red Cross CPR Level A certificate which is valid for 3 years.
This course is $599.00 + GST and includes all course material, personal pocket mask & certificate.
